Two mature women, Charlotte Berry and Ann Fitzpatrick, trying to elude pirate catchers find exile in New Orleans where they become reluctant abolitionists and are pressed into service by a powerful exiled African queen to intercept slave ships and redirect the human cargo to safety as they redefine their relationship, their love and their identities in a changing world.
