Whitney attended Birmingham Southern College earning a BFA in Painting and Pratt Insititute as a fine arts MFA candidate. . After that she attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. She has written numerous plays and screenplays. Whitney’s films include “A Rogue in Londinum” that premiered at the Lucerne International Film Festival in October 2011 and New Hope, PA Film Fest 2012 winning Honorable Mention for Best Art House film and the Independent Spirit Award. “My Brother’s War” premiered at the Methodfest Film Festival 2005 and was nominated for best low- budget indie and for best actress Whitney Hamilton. It is loosely based on the first part of “Firefly”, Whitney’s first Novel. It went on to the Bluegrass Independent Film Festival, Temeculah Valley Independent Film Festival, New Hope Film Festival 2011 and the Southern Appalachian International Film Festival 2011. It has North American Distribution (Netflix DVD). My Brother’s War – Remastered is available on Amazon Prime. Her short Sci-Fi film “Circle” premiered at the NYSummer Shorts Festival 2002. “Circle” won second place as best sci- fi short at the Dragon Con Sci-Fi Film Festival in Atlanta 2003. It was nominated as best sci-fi short at the Shockerfest film festival in California. “The Bellwatcher” A short horror film premiered at the Film Fleadh in New York in March (2001) and Cinema 16 The New Orleans Film Festival. “The Delivery”, another horror short went on to the Seattle Underground Film Festival (2000). As a writer Whitney has penned nine Screenplays: “The Immaculate Misconception”, (Optioned and produced by Other Side of the River Productions and on demand on Indieflix), Chasing DeKooning (commissioned), “Palisade” (Commissioned) “UNION” the sequel to “My Brother’s War” and loosely based on the second half of “Firefly” – Placed third in the Newfest Screenplay Competition 2010, “In Search of the Monkey Girl“– Honorable Mention Slamdance Screenplay Competition, Elvis is Dead, Mapping the In Between, and The Watchers. Full-length plays include: UNION – produced by the Oberon Theatre Company, NYC; “The Secret Language of Circumstance” – Weird Sisters NYC; “The Court of Two Sisters” (A Vampire play) Weird Sisters, NYC, “A Wake in Ma’am Cross”, “Elvis is Dead” Octoberfest Ensemble Studio Theatre; and “The Ballad of Buck Watie, A Cherokee Story” (Commissioned). "The Thistle Dwellers" won first place for playwrighting at the Pacific Northwest Writer's Conference 1998. It was one of the first plays to be workshopped through the Cherry Lane Theater's mentoring program. Her first novel, “Firefly” is available on Amazon.com.
